Vacancy for a Councillor for the Brookside Ward

The Parish Council has a vacancy for a councillor to represent the Brookside Ward.
If youre interested in being a councillor you must be able to meet the following criteria:
· be registered as a local government elector for the parish; or
· have occupied as tenant or owner, within the preceding 12 months, land or premises within the parish give address; or
· had their principal or only place of work, during the last 12 months, within the parish give address; or
· have, during the preceding 12 months, resided in the parish or within 4.8 kilometres of it give address; and
· be 18 years of age or over give date of birth and
· not be disqualified for holding office as a member of a local authority see extracts of the Local Government Act 1972 ( the Parish Clerk can help you find this information)
· submit details of any political party membership

1 Please send your CV, including details of why you think you should be considered for the vacancy. The CV can be delivered to Progress House, Grange Avenue, Stirchley, Telford TF3 1FA (next to Stirchley Library) or e-mailed to stirchley.brookside@virgin.net no later than 21st June 2010.
2 Attend the Council meeting to be held 22nd June at Progress House, starting at 7:30pm. You will be asked to outline your reasons for wanting to become a councillor and members will have the opportunity to ask you questions.

From time to time the Council has vacancies to fill and would ask anyone interested in becoming a Councillor to contact Jane Smith, the Parish Clerk for more details. Generally, a Councillor will be required to attend a council meeting every two months ( and more frequently if elected to a Committee) and to work for and with local people, especially those within the Ward he/she represents.

The Parish Council has received £9860 from the Big Lottery Fund to run junior gym and fitness sessions, starting on 5th November 2009 at 5:00pm at Stirchley Rec. For more information watch out for the newsletter and more news online.

South Telford Heritage Trail Walking Group
This friendly walking group was set-up in 2008 to promote and maintain the South Telford Heritage Trail. The Group meets every Wednesday at Progress House, Stirchley at 09:45am before setting out on a walk in the local area. The walks vary in distance and time but can be anything from 3 - 5 miles and up to 3 hours. Walking boots and waterproofs are essential. Group members take turns to plan the routes and lead the walks. More information can be obtained from Crawford Douglas on 01952 528202.
South Telford Heritage Trail - Guided Walks
The next guided walks along the entire 12 miles of the South Telford Heritage Trail will be held as follows:
Saturday 1 May and Wednesday 5 May 2010, Starting at the Toll House, Ironbridge at 10:00am.
Walking boots and waterproofs essential (packed lunch to be brought)
The walk will take approximately 5-6 hours including breaks and a stop for lunch. We normally always finish at the Black Swan, Ironbridge for well-earned refreshments. The walks are free and more information can be obtained from Crawford Douglas 01952 528202/528201. Booking essential.

Community Orchard
Plans for the Community Orchard are progressing slowly as the identification of suitable land is proving difficult. It is hoped that the orchard will be included in the development of the new school site in Stirchley.
